Computers have come a long way since I built my first one in 1979. Nowadays, a decent computer system can replace a traditional production studio, for less cost and much smaller space. Audio work can demand a fairly "beefy" machine, lotsa RAM & HD space, the faster the CPU the better and a PCI based audio card for "Real Time" effects previewing. If you don't have the latest and greatest, no problem, just supply your own patience.

One program that can "benchmark" your system and give you a good idea of what it's capable of is The Echo Reporter. It's designed to tell you if your computer is fast enough to support their soundcards, but it does a nice job of telling you what your system is capable of. Click HERE to download a copy.
