Abolish the FCC! From the Grapevine Shortwave Forum
Have you ever asked yourself Why does the government have the right to control broadcasting? Have you ever wondered why this system allows a few rich people to "own" the airwaves and give us the 5 "urban contemporary stations" and no jazz stations? Do you ever wonder why all the news reports you hear keep quoting "unnmaed government sources"? Who are these sources? Do you ever wonder why, when some big event happens like the U.S. bombing of Sudan, you never hear anybody on the radio CRITICIZING these actions?
This page is devoted to making the case that insitutions like the FCC are unneeded and in fact harmful to the interests of our communities. The airwaves belong to all of us, so shouldn't we be the ones making decisions about them?
The FCC does not have the authority to regulate the airwaves
The FCC serves the interests of the rich ruling elite and not those of the working people
The FCC routinely misleads the media about the extent to which microbroadcasting "interferes" with air traffic control and legal stations.
The airwaves belong to all of us and we should decide their fate, democratically, at the local level.
The FCC routinely singles out for closure micropower stations which have radical political content
